School hated me and could NEVER see my superpowers

Updated: Jan 29

Have you ever felt boxed in by traits or quirks that seem to overshadow your unique abilities? Let me tell you, I’ve been there.

Navigating the 80s school system with dyslexia (a word I can spell 10 wrong ways without even trying) was no picnic. I didn’t thrive, but I survived. It wasn’t until post-grad, when a sharp lecturer casually asked if I’d ever been evaluated for dyslexia, that the game changed. That question—and eventual diagnosis—set me free. Fast forward: I achieved the pinnacle of academia with a PhD. Who would’ve thought?🎓

Today, I know I’m not defined by dyslexia, but by my superpowers—and how I’ve learned to wield them, both personally and as part of a team. Embracing these strengths has transformed how I work and who I am.

I love what I do because I work 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 my superpowers. They’ve shaped me into a better executive coach. I’ve got a Spidey sense for listening and reading non-verbal cues, the creativity of a 10-year-old on a sugar rush, and a knack for spotting patterns and solutions most people miss. As a problem solver, I’m also naturally wired to see the big picture, connect the dots, and understand inter dynamics in teams and organizations.

Writing (and spelling)? Definitely not my first love. But storytelling? That’s my secret weapon—it’s the alter ego of my dyslexic DNA. I’ve got razor-sharp listening (and recalling) skills and spatial awareness that could make Marie Kondo blush.✨

So, here’s my challenge to you: During this end-of-year slowdown, take some time to 𝘗𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵. What beliefs or traits might you be using to minimize yourself? What if those quirks are your superpowers in disguise? Like diamonds born from pressure or gold refined in fire, adversity, and circumstance often forge our greatest strengths.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿? How do you use it to play to your strengths? 💪 Better yet, how does it empower those around you? Drop your superpower in the comments—I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re struggling to uncover yours, let me help you find it. Together, we can turn it into your unfair advantage.
